So early on, I’ve heard about a lot of suppliers for bouquets. One of them is Dylan Gozum of Vatel Manila. So I got his rates, and I would have to say, he's not cheap. Vatel must really set the bar in the rates of floral bouquets—but no doubt, Dylan delivers. I have yet to hear from any bride who did not love her bouquet made by Vatel. I’ve even heard about stories about Dylan making brides cry on their wedding day upon seeing their bouquet! I kid you not.
Scouring through blogs and forums and supplier reviews, I discovered non traditional / non floral bouquets. Some are made out of paper, others of felt, still others, of cloth, lace or brooch. This piqued my interest, for one, it’s just so damn creative. It’s highly personalized, as you get to choose the materials, specific colors (I was informed there really was NO BLUE FLOWERS. Violet or purple, yes, but there are no blue ones.)
From here I thought: do I want fresh, beautiful flowers on my wedding day? I can dream of peonies, anemones, hyacinths and hydrangeas, roses, carnations adorned with asters as fillers. Or do I want a non-traditional one? I originally like the idea of tweed and then I thought of lace and brooch accents, on printed pastel cloth. Both ideas were so pretty!
So, I made a list of the pros and cons of each.
With floral bouquets, of course, nothing beats the original, backed up by years of tradition. Who doesn’t want to hold pink peonies on their big day? In addition, peonies are really in season on our month of the wedding! Fresh flowers are such an eye candy, they look very beautiful against a bride’s white or cream-colored gown. On the other hand, their freshness only last for so long—a week if you’re lucky!
With non-floral bouquets, I get to pick specific colors and material. There’s no factor of flowers being “off-season”. I get to incorporate our theme in the look of the bouquet. I’ve seen bouquets adorned with feathers or cute buttons. They were just so adorable. Of course, they’re not the traditional flowers brides go for, as they are not real. On the other hand, they can be a keepsake of your wedding day! BUT—why would you really want to keep it anyway? They’re just flowers.
/sigh/
So I’m a sentimental junkie who wants to keep her flowers. (Sorry E, I know you hate junk but I love flowers and I want to keep my bouquet, please please please? :D )
So non-traditional it is!
For this item, I chose {etc} handmade goodness to make mine. These are my pegs for the bouquet (taken from their FB site):
